Granite islands and salt water off Gothenburg

ÖTILLÖ Swimrun Gothenburg takes teams and solo racers through the islands south of the city on Saturday 24 July 2027, with start and finish next to the ferry terminal at Styrsö Bratten.

For the fourth time, ÖTILLÖ brings its World Series to the archipelago just off the Gothenburg mainland, a coast of thousands of granite islands and skerries. All three courses start and finish at Styrsö Bratten, where the race village sits by the ferry pier, so the whole day happens a short boat ride from the city.

The World Series is 39.75 km with 6.76 km of swimming and 32.99 km of running, split over 28 swims and 29 runs and about 280 m of climbing. It starts at 08:11. The Sprint is 22.79 km with 3.84 km in the water, and the Experience is 8.83 km with 1.32 km of swimming. Sprint waves go from 10:15 and Experience waves from 10:30, with men, mixed and women starting a few minutes apart.

Expect granite underfoot, short runs over the islands and many entries and exits. The water is salty and around 18°C in summer, and there are jellyfish: the white ones are harmless, the red ones sting. The World Series has cut-offs at Lilla Rävholmen and Kårholmen, so it suits experienced teams, while the Experience is a good way in for newer swimrunners.

Most ferries to the race area leave from Saltholmen, with more from Stenpiren in the city centre. Good places to watch on land are the race village at Styrsö Bratten, Asperö, Styrsö Sandvik, Utterviks badplats, Kårholmen and Vrångö harbour. From a boat you can see swims such as the one between Krokholmen and Känsö. Help to teams is not allowed except in a medical emergency.
