SKYWARD CANYON

The shape is simple and steep: a hard climb straight out of the start, then running above 2,000 m on high-mountain traverses, then a long descent to Birkat Al Mouz. On the way the organiser lists stone paths, rocky trails, exposed canyon ground, gorges, ridgelines and terraced paths and farms cut into the cliffs, with Al Hamra, Misfat and traditional mountain villages named along the route. The race is listed as full for 2026.

Fifteen hours for 50 km is generous on paper, but most of the course is at altitude and on rock. Aid stations serve food and drink to be taken on site, and the mandatory kit includes at least 1.5 litres of water, two litres in the hot-weather list, a waterproof jacket, a survival blanket, a torch and a smartphone with the LiveTrail app. Bibs must be collected in person, in Muscat on 5-6 December or at the race village from 8 to 10 December. The race carries two Running Stones.
