JABAL CLASSIC

The organiser calls it a heritage mountain route, on old trails between villages in the Hajar Mountains. From Al Hamra it climbs onto rugged ridgelines and rocky mountain paths, passes Misfat’s stone paths and terraced farms carved into the cliffs, crosses deep wadis and the elevated plateaus around the high settlements of Jabal Akhdar, and comes down to the race village in Birkat Al Mouz. Long ascents, sharp descents, technical ground and some exposure make up the 5,000 m.

The race starts at seven in the morning, eight and a half hours before the Hajar Ultra leaves the same town, so the first part of the day is spent climbing in daylight. With 30 hours for 103 km, a runner who uses much of the limit will spend a night in the mountains, and the organiser warns of strong shifts between daytime heat and night cold. The race carries three Running Stones. Bibs are collected in Muscat on 5-6 December or at the race village on 8-9 December.
