Course & challenge

HAJAR ULTRA

This is the 100-mile-category race of Oman by UTMB, and the only one that starts in the afternoon. Out of the historic mountain town of Al Hamra the course climbs into the Hajar range for almost 8,000 m of ascent, across steep ridgelines, deep wadis, exposed traverses and remote plateaus, through Misfat Al Abriyeen and the settlements of Jabal Akhdar, and finally down to the race village at Birkat Al Mouz. Around kilometre 87 there is a via ferrata of about 10 to 15 minutes, with harnesses, helmets and guides from a specialised partner.

The 15:30 start means the first night comes early. The organiser warns of hot days and cold nights, and of wind and fog at altitude, and the mandatory kit follows: at least two litres of water, two working torches, a survival blanket, a waterproof jacket with hood and an 800 kcal food reserve. The race gives four Running Stones towards the UTMB World Series Finals. Bibs are collected in Muscat on 5-6 December or at the race village on 8-9 December.

This page covers the 2026 Hajar Ultra. Forty-eight hours over two nights and long technical sections between villages leave a family in Birkat Al Mouz with little to go on. On Livebib they see the runner’s position on the course line, distance done and a finish estimate that updates, with any stretch where the phone lost signal carried forward and marked as estimated.
