Oman's running festival on the Muscat waterfront

The Experience Oman Muscat Marathon is a weekend running festival in the Omani capital, with races from a kids run to the full marathon.

The Muscat Marathon was born in 2012 and has grown into what the organiser calls Oman's premier running festival, welcoming runners from more than 100 nations. The next edition takes place over the weekend of 29 and 30 January 2027, with Al Khuwair Square in Muscat as the venue.

There are six starts across the weekend: the marathon over 42.2 km, the half marathon over 21.1 km, a 10 km run, a 5 km run, an open fun run and a kids run. The organiser describes a certified course past waterfront landmarks, with the coast and the mountains as a backdrop. Route maps for each distance are on the race pages, and details on parking and road closures come in the runners' guide.

Cut-off times are six hours for the marathon, three hours for the half, two hours for the 10 km and one hour for the 5 km, which leaves room for people who walk part of the way. Minimum ages are 17 for the marathon, 16 for the half, 14 for the 10 km and 12 for the 5 km. The organiser recommends the marathon to people who have already finished a half marathon and can train seriously in the months before.

For families and spectators the weekend works as a festival, with music and hospitality around the start and finish at Al Khuwair Square. Participants are asked to be at the start at least 30 minutes before their race.
