Arctic water, coastal roads and a summit finish

Lofoten Triathlon is an arctic triathlon in Svolvær, held in week 33 from 19 to 21 August 2027, with start, transitions and finish all on the town square.

The race is one of three in The Arctic Triple, made in and by Lofoten alongside a ski mountaineering race and an ultra trail. Athletes swim in 13 to 16 degree water below the peaks, ride empty coastal roads between fjord and mountains, then run over a summit to the finish. The national federation has chosen the courses for Norwegian championships more than once, most recently the middle distance on the Half Extreme course in 2025.

The Extreme is 4.0 km of swimming, 181.9 km on the bike and a 40.6 km mountain run over Spisstinden at 665 m, a total of 226.5 km. It starts on Friday at 05:00. The Half Extreme, 1.9 km, 99.5 km and 21.2 km, starts the same day at 12:00 with a sheltered swim, the Fiskebøl bike leg and a two-lap run. The Olympic+, 1.5 km, 44.4 km and 11.5 km with Tjeldbergtinden on the run, starts on Saturday at 10:00 and is open from age 16. A relay team of three can race the Olympic+ course, and children aged 3 to 12 have their own race on the square on Friday.

A full wetsuit is mandatory, kayaks and boats follow every swimmer, and no personal support crew is needed since the organisers run all the stations. English is the race language, and every athlete must understand it.

Spectators can follow the whole race from Svolvær square, where every start, transition and finish happens.
