Le Race, live.

100 km from Cathedral Square to Akaroa

Le Race is a 100 km cycling race from the centre of Christchurch over Banks Peninsula to Akaroa, with a history dating back to 1935.

Golden Homes Le Race 2027 is on Saturday 20 March 2027. Riders start at 8:00 in Cathedral Square in Christchurch and ride 100 km via Little River to Akaroa. The organiser has already set Saturday 18 March 2028 for the following edition.

The course has two climbs that decide the King and Queen of the Mountain: the climb to the Sign of the Kiwi and the long climb up to the Hilltop. Riders can enter as individuals on a road or mountain bike, on a tandem, or as an Ensemble 4 team where four riders each ride the full distance and the combined times decide the team placing. There are e-bike and Clydesdale categories too, and e-bikes line up at the rear of the field.

Relais 2 splits the course between two riders who change over at Little River Domain. Rider 1 rides Cathedral Square to Little River, 53.65 km, and rider 2 rides Little River to Akaroa, 46.35 km including the Hilltop section. Each rider's time is recorded at the changeover mats. Age groups start at under 17.

Race packs are collected on Friday 19 March at Golden Homes on the corner of St Asaph and Durham Streets in Christchurch. On race day the riders village opens at 7:00, with a compulsory briefing on the start line at 7:45. Prize giving is at Le Domain in Akaroa from around 13:30, and on Sunday brunch rides leave Akaroa for Christchurch.

On Livebib you can follow a rider who chooses to share their own live position from the phone they carry. This is not the organiser's timing, and the official results come from Le Race.
