Rapperswil to Zürich, the length of the lake

The Sri Chinmoy Marathon Swim covers 26 km of Lake Zurich, from the Schlossbadi in Rapperswil to the Strandbad Tiefenbrunnen in Zürich, for solo swimmers and relays.

The 39th edition is on Sunday 8 August 2027, with the start for solo swimmers and relays at 7:00. The race briefing is on the Saturday afternoon in Rapperswil. Entries open on 15 October 2026 and close on 15 November 2026 for most swimmers, with later entries only for those who bring their own boat, and places are limited.

Every swimmer is escorted by a kayak, rowing boat or motorboat chosen to suit their pace. There is a 12 hour limit with two cut-offs on the way: Meilen at 14.3 km by 13:30 and the Küsnachter Horn at 21.8 km by 16:45, with the finish closing at 19:00. Depending on the conditions, the organiser says the 26 km can feel like more than 30 pool kilometres.

Solo swimmers must be 16 or older and race in main and masters classes, with separate categories with and without wetsuits. Relays have two or three swimmers, aged 12 or older, who change every hour in a fixed order. The organiser describes the lake as very clean and fairly calm, with small waves from boats and wind, and water temperatures of 19 to 26 degrees.

The race is run by the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team in Zürich, which also publishes maps of both halves of the course and a GPS route of the swim. The entry fee includes food before and after the swim, warm showers, a T-shirt, a certificate and a medal, and every successful swimmer receives a medal and certificate.
