The oldest long distance ski race in the Czech Republic

Krkonošská 70 is a long distance cross country ski race in the Krkonoše mountains that has been held since 1955.

The next Krkonošská 70 is set for 23 January 2027, with its 72nd edition being prepared by TJ Lokomotiva Trutnov and KST Academy. The race is part of the Stopa pro život series. The first edition was held in 1955, and the organiser calls it the oldest long distance ski race in the Czech Republic.

Start and finish are at Svatý Petr in Špindlerův Mlýn. The 70 km main course runs via Hromovka and Struhadla to Krásná Pláň and the checkpoint at Srub, continues past Pražská bouda and out to Pardubické Boudy under Černá hora, then returns the same way. The 50 km turns at Pražská bouda, and the 25 km stays around Krásná Pláň and Srub.

The race is known for its patrols of five skiers. At the last edition patrols raced 70 km, 50 km and 25 km in free style, with three patrols leaving every 30 seconds from 8:00, while individuals skied the 25 km and 50 km in waves after the patrols. The organiser will publish the 2027 rules when registration opens.

This is a mountain race for fit skiers, and the organiser warns that conditions can change. Spectators can watch the start and finish at Svatý Petr and the team starts in the morning.
