Road, MTB and gravel, one finish in Viborg

Hærvejsløbet is a one day recreational cycling event in Jutland where every road, mountain bike and gravel route ends in Viborg.

DGI calls Hærvejsløbet Denmark's biggest recreational cycling event, and the 2027 edition is on Saturday 26 June. Riders start in towns spread across Jutland and the north of Germany, then ride toward the same finish in Viborg, so the whole field arrives in one place. DGI counts more than 7,000 riders, and the event is carried by 25 local clubs and more than 1,000 volunteers, who receive a large share of the entry fees.

The road routes start in Flensburg (300 km), Vejen (160 km), Aalborg (125 km), Nørre Snede (75 km) and Funder (50 km). The mountain bike routes leave from Jelling (165 km), Bryrup (110 km), Lynderupgaard (85 km), Engesvang (60 km) and Frederiks (40 km), with flowing singletrack and rolling hills. Gravel riders choose Jelling (175 km), Bryrup (125 km), Rebild (100 km), Lynderupgaard (80 km), Engesvang (70 km) or Frederiks (50 km) on fast-rolling gravel paths and scenic backcountry roads.

The spread of distances is the point. A first-timer can ride 40 or 50 km and still share the finish with people who set off from Flensburg in the morning, where the 300 km field starts between 06:30 and 07:30 on the provisional schedule. The longest road, gravel and MTB routes are a serious day out for trained riders. The organiser runs buses from Viborg to the start towns and carries a bag with a change of clothes from every start to the finish area.

The finish area in Viborg is shared by every route, with a red carpet and a big party on Paradepladsen. Following one rider is easier than guessing their arrival, because start times differ by route and the faster riders are sent off first.
