Running past the temples of Luxor's west bank
The Egyptian Luxor Marathon is a running race on the west bank of Luxor that starts at Hatshepsut Temple and has been held since 1992.
The 34th edition is on Friday 8 January 2027. The marathon is an AIMS race, and alongside it there is a half marathon, a 12K and a 5K. Every distance starts at 07:00 from Hatshepsut Temple.
The course passes Medinet Habu, the Temple of Amenophis III and the Colossi of Memnon, so the monuments of the west bank are part of the run itself. The cut-off is 6 hours for the marathon and 4 hours for the other distances.
The 6 hour limit leaves room for people who mix running and walking, and the 12K and 5K are well suited to those travelling with friends or family who want a shorter race.
Spectators can see everyone set off together at Hatshepsut Temple. Check the organiser's event page for the finish area and transport on race morning.
On Livebib you can follow a participant live when that person chooses to share their own position from the phone they carry during the race. The dot on the map comes from the participant's phone, not from the organiser's timing, and the official results are published by the organiser.
