Fifty kilometres and 1,700 metres of climbing on the Auburn end of the Western States trail — the Confluence, the Quarry Road, No Hands Bridge and the singletrack above the North Fork — run as a loop out of town and back. It is the most accessible of the weekend’s serious distances and the one a first-time canyon runner is most likely to choose, but the heat and the relentless small climbs make it far harder than the profile suggests.
The time limit is 10 hours, which puts the whole race inside one daylight day and makes it the easiest of the four to spectate from town. This page is the 2027 edition of the 50K, with that year’s gun and course. On Livebib, supporters see the loop drawn on the map, the runner moving along it, splits at every aid station and a live estimate of when to be standing at the finish arch in Auburn.
