The West Highland Way Race follows the West Highland Way from Milngavie to Fort William in one push, with a 35 hour limit.
The 2027 West Highland Way Race is on 19 June 2027. It is run on the West Highland Way, which opened on 6 October 1980, and the race itself began on 22 June 1985 when Bobby Shields and Duncan Watson set off from Milngavie railway station and finished together in Fort William in 17 hours and 48 minutes. Today more than 200 people start each year and about 75% finish.
The course runs about 95 miles from Milngavie by Loch Lomond, Rannoch Moor, Glencoe and Kinlochleven to the finish at the Nevis Centre in Fort William, with roughly 4,500 m of ascent. Checkpoints with strict cut-offs include Balmaha at 19 miles, Rowardennan at 27, Beinglas Farm at 42, Tyndrum at 53, Bridge of Orchy, Glencoe Ski Centre at 71, Kinlochleven at 81 and Lundavra at 88. The overall limit is 35 hours.
Entry is by ballot with qualifying experience on mountain trails, and the race accepts 300 entries. Runners must be at least 20 on race day. For 2027 a support crew is no longer mandatory, but it is strongly recommended, and crews meet runners only in designated support zones. A support runner is allowed from Tyndrum onwards.
The course records belong to Rob Sinclair with 13:41:08 from 2017 and Lucy Colquhoun with 17:16:20 from 2007. More than 1,700 people have finished the race at least once.
On Livebib, family and crew can follow a participant live when that participant chooses to share the position of the phone they carry. It is not the organiser's timing, and official results come from the organiser.
