A running festival in Ireland's oldest city

The Waterford Viking Marathon is a weekend running festival in Waterford, Ireland's oldest city, with a full marathon, half marathon and 10K that start on The Mall.

The 15th edition is on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 June 2027, with five events across the two days and numbers limited to 6,000. In 2026 the full marathon, half marathon and 10K started at 9am on the Sunday, and a children's run and a disability friendly run were also on the programme.

The start is on The Mall, between Waterford Crystal and the Bishops Palace. The marathon heads out of the city along the Greenway beside the River Suir and through Mount Congreve Gardens before turning back towards the city centre. The half also runs through Mount Congreve Gardens, and the half and 10K finish on O'Connell Street.

The marathon relay splits the distance between two runners, each covering a half marathon, with a Viking Bus to the changeover at the Ballyduff underpass. Walkers are welcome in the half and 10K, starting behind the runners, but not in the full marathon, as roads reopen at 3pm.

Supporter zones and live music line the route. Early bird entry for 2027 is open, the organiser has frozen entry prices, and a bag drop near the start is open until 8.45am on race morning.

Livebib lets family and friends follow a participant live if that person chooses to share the position of the phone they carry. It is not the organiser's timing system, and official results always come from the organiser.
