Course & challenge

100K LANGBIANG

The race opens on the paved streets of Da Lat in the dark, then takes rolling dirt trails to the long ascent of Langbiang Peak, at 2,167 m the highest point of the course. It continues through the forest around Suoi Vang Lake, above Da Lat’s greenhouses, through pine and mountain streams to the K’ho village of Gan Reo, and over the jungle trails and several summits of Elephant Mountain (1,815 m) before Pinhatt Peak (1,600 m) and the lakeside trails to the finish. Aid stations, in order: Pine Forest, Langbiang, Suoi Vang Lake, Da Nghit, Hoa Son (with the midway drop bag), Maple Leaf and Lam Ha Basecamp, plus a water stop at Gan Reo.

The maximum time is 29 hours, a required pace of 16:18 per kilometre. The organiser expects the first finisher after about 12 hours and the last at 08:00 on Sunday. The terrain is mostly dirt road and double track, with about a third singletrack. Pacers are not allowed, crews may help only at the aid stations, and finishers earn 3 Running Stones.

For a crew driving between aid stations, the useful question is which one to go to next. On Livebib the runner shares a link to their own broadcast: their position on the line, distance done and a finish estimate that updates with their pace, opened in a browser with no app or account. In the forest or on the far side of a summit, when the phone loses signal, the position is carried forward along the course and marked estimated instead of freezing. The runner chooses who sees it.
