Over the Victoria Falls Bridge and back

The Econet Victoria Falls Marathon on Sunday 4 July 2027 starts in Victoria Falls town and crosses the Victoria Falls Bridge toward Zambia before turning for home.

Wild Frontiers proposed the race in 2005, and the first edition in 2006 had around 300 entrants, most of them local. It has since become a fixture of the African running calendar, with up to 40 nationalities taking part, and 2027 marks its 19th anniversary. The full marathon is an official Comrades Marathon qualifier and is measured under World Athletics rules.

All distances start and finish at Baobab Primary School. The marathon and half marathon head down the main road to the Victoria Falls Bridge, turn just before Zambian immigration at about 4.5 km, and come back along Zambezi Drive past the Big Tree at 8 km, where National Parks rangers guard the route. The course continues on Park Way toward the National Park gate and through the grounds of the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge. The marathon runs the lap twice.

The provisional start times are 06:15 for the full marathon, 06:45 for the team relay of two runners covering 10.5 km each, 06:55 for the 18 km race for tricycles, handcycles and wheelchairs, 07:15 for the half marathon and 07:45 for the fun run of about 7.5 km. The final cut-off for all distances is 12:30, and a sweep vehicle follows the last runners.

Marathon runners must be 20 or older and half marathon runners 18. Race numbers are collected at the Sprayview Hotel in the days before the race, and nothing is handed out on race morning. The finish at the school is lively, with local bands, food and crowds, which makes it the best place for supporters.
