Västgötaloppet, live.

One of Sweden's oldest long distance races, in two styles

Västgötaloppet is a winter weekend of ski races at Lassalyckan in Ulricehamn on 6 and 7 February 2027, with skate on Saturday and classic on Sunday.

The first Västgötaloppet set off on 3 February 1929, when 118 men double poled across the ice of Lake Åsunden toward the finish in Borås in 24 degrees of frost. Axel Persson of IFK Borås won. From the start the route was set as Ulricehamn to Borås, and IFK Borås and the newspaper Borås Tidning were its first organisers. Today it is run by Tvärreds IF, the official organiser since 1973, and Äspereds IF, since 1982.

The race now uses a lap course at Lassalyckan in Ulricehamn, made to suit both beginners and elite skiers, with the competition centre in Boulehallen. On Saturday 6 February the skate races start at 12:00 over 42, 25 or 18 km, and the relay starts at the same time: a team of three to five people shares 42 km, each skiing one or more laps in free technique. On Sunday 7 February it is the classic day, again with 42, 25 or 18 km.

Both the Classic and the Skate count toward the Ski Classics Challengers, and the Classic is the most popular seeding race for Vasaloppet and Tjejvasan. That draws many skiers who want to improve their start group, but the 18 and 25 km make the weekend just as suitable for a first race, and the relay is a good way to bring a group of friends or colleagues.

Because the course is a lap, spectators at Lassalyckan see the field come through the stadium several times. Children up to 8 can ski Miniskidan, a free race of about 400 m around the stadium, so the whole family has something to do while waiting.

On Livebib you can follow a participant who chooses to share their own live position from the phone they carry during the race. This is a separate service and not the organiser's timing. Official times and results come from Västgötaloppet.
