Five days across the Valley of the Moon

Ultra X Jordan is a five-day stage race through the rock towers, wadis and dunes of the Wadi Rum desert.

Ultra X Jordan 2027, the 11th edition, runs from 4 to 8 October 2027 in the Wadi Rum desert. The main race covers 220 km in five stages with 2,522 m of climbing. The Jordan Challenge covers 110 km and 1,055 m on the same course in the same week, sharing the desert camps, and is designed with walkers and first-time stage racers in mind.

The week starts with a briefing and a full kit check in Amman on the Sunday, then a transfer to the base camp in Wadi Rum. The stages follow from Monday to Friday at 40 km, 39 km, 57 km, 50 km and 35 km, with new camps after the third and fourth days. The course passes historic sites, deep wadis and sand dunes in the landscape known as the Valley of the Moon.

The organiser rates the race 4 out of 6 for difficulty and 2 out of 5 for technicality, and expects temperatures of 26 to 34 degrees. Time allowances are generous at 2.5 hours per 10 km, and most people walk half the course, so it suits walkers and runners alike as long as they can manage several days of heat and camp life.

There is little for spectators on the desert stages themselves. The organiser suggests that friends and family explore Petra, the Dead Sea and Amman while the race is on, or volunteer at the race.

On Livebib you can follow a participant who chooses to share their own live position from the phone they carry. This is not the organiser's timing, and the official results come from the organiser of the Ultra X Jordan.
