Clothes that rarely come home the same

A five- or ten-kilometre run through the mud and wet of Norra Djurgården, where the organiser’s own advice is to wear things you are happy to lose.

Tjurruset is held on Saturday 10 October 2026, and that year it returns to Norra Djurgården in Stockholm; the last time it was run there was 2024. There are two distances, 5 and 10 km, mostly off-road. The organiser, Marathongruppen together with Hässelby SK and Spårvägens FK, describes mud and wet and terrain that is at times challenging, and warns that clothes rarely return to their former state. Shoes should grip well and fit tightly: the mud can pull them off.

Each distance has a common start for men and women, sorted into start groups by what you run on road or track. On the 5 km the groups run from A (22 minutes or faster) to D (33 minutes or slower); on the 10 km from A to J, the last for runners slower than 64 minutes. Runners must be 16 or older that year, and younger children have Kalvruset. After the finish there is a quick rinse straight away and warm showers in tents a few minutes’ walk away, plus bins for clothes that are not worth taking home.

On Livebib the runner shares a link to their own broadcast, and family and friends open it in a browser, with no account and no app. They see the runner’s position on the course line, the distance covered and a finish estimate that updates as the race goes. In a race where the pace drops in every bog, that estimate is the useful part. If the phone loses its signal in the forest, the position is carried forward along the course and marked as estimated instead of freezing. The runner decides who gets the link.
