From Thyon 2000 to the top of the Grande Dixence dam

Thyon-Dixence is a 16.35 km mountain run in the Val d'Hérens that finishes in the middle of the Grande Dixence dam wall, next held on Sunday 1 August 2027.

The race links the ski station of Thyon 2000 with the Grande Dixence dam in the Val des Dix. The course follows roads and mountain paths, passes the shore of a small high lake and some steeper rocky ground, and stays between 2,100 and 2,450 m the whole way. The total is 16.35 km with 700 m of positive height difference, and the dam wall is already in sight from the start. On a clear day the Dent Blanche and the Matterhorn watch over the route.

There are two ways to take part. In the Populaires category, open from the age of 5, walkers and runners set off individually in 30 minute windows between 07:30 and 10:30, with at most 170 people per window, and walkers use the first two windows. The ranked categories start together at 11:00 and are meant for people who finish in under three hours. The finish closes at 14:30, with a time limit at Orchéraz along the way.

The field is capped at 1,400 bibs, and the 2026 race was full. Registration for 2027 opens on 1 April 2027. The entry includes a souvenir T-shirt, transport of your bag to the finish, the cable car down from the dam and the bus back to Thyon 2000.

The race has been run from the start by the gymnastics club La Gentiane of Mâche, in the municipality of Hérémence, with more than 100 volunteers on race day and three refreshment points on the course plus one at the finish.
