Non-stop from Fort William to Cape Wrath

The Wrath is a solo, self-sufficient, non-stop race along the Cape Wrath Trail through the Scottish Highlands.

The Wrath starts in Fort William on Sunday 2 May 2027 at 13:00. The finish is the Cape Wrath Lighthouse in the far north west of Scotland, and the limit is 168 hours, so the course closes at 13:00 on 9 May. The Cape Wrath Ultra trademark has been acquired by Ultra Endurance Series Ltd, the organisers of The Spine Race, after the previous organiser went into administration in March 2026, and they have announced The Wrath as a non-stop race on the Cape Wrath Trail.

The course measures 236 miles with 13,249 m of ascent and the same in descent. It is unmarked, GPS is mandatory, and participants navigate themselves. The race is solo and self-sufficient, with no pacers and no outside support. What support will be available at checkpoints is still being confirmed, and competent map and compass navigation is essential whatever the GPS shows.

There are 100 places in the main race. The organisers also list Wrath Challenger South and Wrath Sprint South, and they point to the Sprint South as the most realistic starting point for people newer to the distance, though every entry is still vetted.

The organisers say the race is built for experienced ultra and mountain runners, and the full distance expects prior long distance mountain or expedition style ultra experience. Mandatory kit applies across all three races, reflecting the seriousness of remote mountain terrain, overnight movement and unpredictable weather, and a full kit list will follow.
