The Alpaca Race 106 km

The Alpaca Race 106 km

Every lap is the same 10.6 km loop with about 620 m of climbing through Hisingsparken in Gothenburg. The loop got its name from the Gothenburg ultrarunner Erik Billerby, who thought it looked like an alpaca on the map. The organiser calls the course a little more technical than UTMB but mostly of normal difficulty, and the park is a maze of paths.

Ten laps is the full distance, and the organiser notes that only a handful of runners have completed it. The evening start means the night is run by headlamp, and many runners need up to two hours a lap. The lap control in Tuve has a barbecue, spectators and music. The runners have named the climbs, Delfinbacken and Boliviabacken among them.

There is no aid station out on the loop. The depot is at the start and finish at Kvillestugan in Tuve, passed after every lap, with drinks and food. Mandatory kit is a hydration belt or vest, a fully charged phone, energy bars and gels, and a headlamp for running at night.

This page covers The Alpaca Race 106 km 2027. On Livebib, family and friends see the runner's position on the loop, the laps completed and a finish estimate that updates through the race. If the phone loses its signal, the position is carried forward along the course and marked as estimated.
