From the Verkehrshaus along Lake Lucerne and through the old town

The SwissCityMarathon Lucerne holds its 20th edition on Sunday 31 October 2027, as always on the last Sunday of October.

Start and finish are at the Verkehrshaus der Schweiz, the Swiss Museum of Transport, by Lake Lucerne. There are four races: the marathon, the half marathon, the CityRun over 10 km from Horw through the old town, and the CharityRun over 10 km. Participants start in staggered slots of at most 500, assigned by personal choice rather than by performance.

The race was first held in 2007 as the Lucerne Marathon with more than 6,000 participants. Today the half marathon alone draws more than 7,000, the largest in Switzerland, and people come from more than 90 nations.

The marathon course records are 2:24:24 for men, set by Salvisberg in 2022, and 2:39:15 for women, set by Strähl in 2013. In the half marathon El Aaraby ran 1:01:29 and Kilonzo 1:07:59, both in 2023. The organiser says the half marathon passes the sights of Lucerne, with views of stunning nature and a unique atmosphere along the course, and the 10 km options make it a weekend for groups with mixed experience.

The CityRun starts in Horw, which the organiser calls an atmosphere hotspot, and runs through the picturesque old town lanes of Lucerne to the finish arena at the Verkehrshaus. Children can run the Maratholino over 195 metres.
