Dundas Valley Conservation Area, Ancaster, Ontario · May 29, 2027

Canada's oldest ultra, on a 20K loop in the Dundas Valley

The 35th Sulphur Springs Trail Race runs on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 May 2027 in the Dundas Valley Conservation Area in Hamilton, Ontario.

Sulphur Springs has been lost in the woods since 1992, and the Burlington Runners Club presents it as Canada's oldest ultramarathon. 2027 is its 35th year, managed again by Mauro Campanelli and Steve Connor of Straw Dog Racing. It is the only Western States qualifying race in Ontario, and the organiser says it sells out every year.

Every distance is built from loops on the trails of the Dundas Valley Conservation Area, in the former Town of Ancaster on the Niagara Escarpment. The main loop is 20K with more than 500 metres of gain, mixing groomed trail with moderately challenging single track, rolling hills and steep climbs. The 100K is five 20K loops, and the 50K is one 10K loop followed by two 20K loops.

Saturday 29 May has the 100 mile, 100K, 50 mile and 50K races, plus two team options: the 50 Mile Night Relay for up to four runners and the 100 Mile Team Relay for up to eight. Sunday 30 May has the 20K and 10K trail races. The organiser says the loop offers trail runners of all skills a little something to enjoy.

Each loop gives a chance to regroup, refuel and recharge with the team at the crew tent area, so crews and friends see their runner every time a loop is completed.

On Livebib you can follow a participant who chooses to share their own live position from the phone they carry. This is not the organiser's timing, and official results come from the Sulphur Springs Trail Race.
