Three distances in the centre of Stavanger
Stavanger Marathon is a road race in the city centre of Stavanger on Norway's southwest coast, organised by GTI Friidrettsklubb.
The 2027 edition is on Saturday 28 August. There are three distances: the full marathon of 42.195 km, the half marathon of 21.1 km and a 5 km. Registration is online through the organiser's entry page, and the organiser's own website has the latest start times and the programme for the day.
The marathon starts and finishes in the city centre and climbs about 280 m over the distance. It is run on mixed surfaces rather than asphalt alone, so it is worth choosing shoes and planning the pace with that in mind. The half marathon also starts and finishes in the centre, on mixed surfaces, with about 130 m of climbing.
The 5 km starts at Mariero station, a stop on the local train line south of the centre, and finishes in the city centre, so participants on the shortest distance travel out to the start and run back into town.
Late August on the coast of Rogaland is usually mild, but the weather can turn quickly, with wind and showers coming in from the sea. Check the organiser's course map and practical information before you travel.
On Livebib you can follow a participant who chooses to share their own live position from the phone they carry. This is not the organiser's timing, and the official results come from Stavanger Marathon.
