From the Pine Valley Mountains down to the red rock
The St. George Marathon is a one-way road course: runners are bussed into the Pine Valley Mountains before dawn and run back down into town.
The 2026 race starts at 7:00 AM on Saturday, October 3, and the City of St. George runs it. Marathon runners board buses at Vernon Worthen Park, 250 S 400 E, between 3:45 and 5:15 AM, at the time printed on their bib, and drop their clothing bag into the U-Haul at the start line by 6:50 AM. The bag waits at the finish, and the finish is back in Vernon Worthen Park, where the bus left from.
The city describes the course as a smooth downhill route from the Pine Valley Mountains to the red rock canyons of St. George, and the race is a Boston qualifier run under USATF rules. Runners line up in self-seeded start areas by bib number. Medical tents stand at every odd mile from mile 7. The one hard cutoff is at Snow Canyon Parkway and S.R. 18, mile 23.1, at 1:15 PM, and the finish line closes at 2:15 PM.
Because the start is a bus ride away in the mountains, the first miles are far from anyone waiting in town. The city’s own app offers live runner tracking. Livebib is the runner’s own link instead: they share it, family open it in a browser with no account, and see position on the course line, distance covered and a finish estimate that updates as the race goes. If the phone drops signal, the position is carried forward along the course and marked as estimated.
