Technical singletrack around Squamish, two days in August

The Squamish 50 packs a 50 mile, a 50 km and a 23 km race into one August weekend on the trails above Squamish.

The Squamish 50 is held on 14 and 15 August 2027 in Squamish, British Columbia. The race has hosted national titles, including the 2023 Canadian Mountain and Trail Running Championships and the 2024 Canadian Trail Running Championship, and the organiser calls the 50 mile an exceptionally difficult course made tougher still by its technical terrain. Registration for 2027 opens on 13 November.

The 50 mile goes on Saturday 14 August at 5:30 in the morning, by headlamp, from Junction Park on Cleveland Ave, where it also finishes. It has about 3,500 m of climbing and the same again in descent, more than 90% of it on singletrack, and the biggest single climb is 760 m. The finish closes 17 hours after the start. The first six to seven miles are relatively flat and fast, and the rest is not.

Sunday 15 August has two races. The 50 km starts at 6:15 from a clearing on Black Bear Rd, 400 m north of the Alice Lake Park turn off, and finishes at Junction Park after 2,500 m of climbing and 2,750 m of descent, including the climb up Galactic Scheisse to above 1,000 m. The 23 km starts at 8:00 at Capilano University with 1,000 m up and 1,200 m down, and the organiser is clear that it should not be your first trail race. A 50/50 option combines the Saturday and Sunday races.

Junction Park in downtown Squamish is where both days finish. The organiser publishes crew information, the race weekend schedule and a raceday coverage page on the Squamish 50 site, and all runners park at Brennan Park and take the race shuttles.
