Worthing to Eastbourne on the South Downs Way
The South Downs Way 50 is a point-to-point 50 mile trail race from Worthing to Eastbourne along the South Downs Way National Trail.
Centurion Running's South Downs Way 50 starts at 08:30 on Saturday 10 April 2027 at Hillbarn Recreation Ground in Worthing, next to registration at Worthing College. Runners have 13 hours to reach Eastbourne Sports Club athletics track, where they finish with a lap of the track. There are 650 places on open registration, and the race has sold out every year.
The course is 50 miles (81 km) with about 1,750 m of climb. The first six miles follow chalk footpaths and bridleways up to the South Downs Way at Chanctonbury Ring. From there it is the same as the final 44 miles of the South Downs Way 100, staying on the trail until the turn off for the finish. About 85% is trail, and the exposed chalk can be slippery and muddy in the wet.
To enter, runners need a marathon finished within that event's cut-off since 1 January 2022. There are 7 aid stations, with hot drinks at Alfriston, Jevington and the finish. Mandatory kit is checked, and a missing item costs a one hour penalty.
It is the first race of Centurion's 50 mile Grand Slam. The course records are 5:44:22 and 6:54:26.
On Livebib you can follow a participant live when they choose to share the position of the phone they carry. That position comes from the participant's own phone and is not the organiser's timing, so official results and checkpoint splits come from the organiser.
