The South Downs Way 100 is a non-stop 100 mile trail race along the whole South Downs Way National Trail, from near Winchester to Eastbourne.
Centurion Running's South Downs Way 100 starts on Saturday 12 June 2027 at Matterley Bowl, just outside Winchester, in two waves at 05:30 and 06:30. Runners have 30 hours to reach the finish at Eastbourne Sports Club athletics track, where they run a lap of the track, and friends, family and crew may join them for it. The race is part of the World Trail Majors series and takes up to 600 starters.
The course is 100 miles (161 km) with about 3,800 m of climb. It opens with a 4 mile loop on the private Matterley Estate before joining the South Downs Way and following the chalk ridge due east, with views north across the Weald and south to the coast and the Channel. About 85% is trail and 15% road, the whole course is marked, and there are 12 aid stations with strict cut-offs at each.
To enter, runners need a race of at least 50 miles finished within 15 hours since 1 January 2020. Finishers under 24 hours receive a one-day buckle and those between 24 and 30 hours a finisher buckle. Only wave one runners are eligible for the overall awards, while age group awards are open to both waves.
There is overnight camping at the start, and on the Friday evening kids and junior races start at 17:30 in the bowl. The 2026 course records are 13:27:13 by David Green and 14:27:34 by Sarah Webster.
On Livebib you can follow a participant live when they choose to share the position of the phone they carry. That position comes from the participant's own phone and is not the organiser's timing, so official results and checkpoint splits come from the organiser.
