Seven stages through the Crowsnest Pass

The Sinister 7 Ultra sends solo runners and relay teams through seven stages in the mountains of the Crowsnest Pass in Alberta.

The Sinister 7 Ultra is held on 10 and 11 July 2027 in Crowsnest Pass, Alberta, by Sinister Sports. Its name comes from the Seven Sisters Mountain, which looms over much of the course, and every race starts on Saturday 10 July. Registration closes on 21 June or when the race is full.

The 100 miler can be run solo or by a team of up to seven, over 7 stages from 10.7 to 36.2 km long. It starts at 7:00 from Gazebo Park in Blairmore and finishes at the Crowsnest Sports Complex in Coleman, with 6,692 m of climbing and a 30 hour time limit. The 50 miler is solo only, 4 stages and 2,985 m of climbing, starting at 10:30 from the York Creek Staging Area in Coleman, with 24 hours to finish.

Two shorter races complete the day. The 50K covers two stages of 22.8 km and 30.8 km, with 2,399 m of climbing, a 7:30 start in Blairmore and a 13.5 hour limit. The half marathon is one 22.8 km stage with 1,014 m of climbing and a 7.5 hour limit, also from Gazebo Park. A kids race starts at 1:00 in the afternoon. The organisers warn that with over 6,600 m of climbing on the 100 mile course, this race will punish those who are not prepared.

Transition areas sit at the end of each stage, are accessible by vehicle and are staffed with water and snack food. Relay racers should be at their transition area about an hour before their previous runner arrives, and support crews can meet racers at every one of them. A support crew is not required but is recommended for solo runners.
