Saskatoon's river valley race since 1979

The Saskatchewan Marathon returns to Saskatoon on Sunday 30 May 2027.

The Saskatchewan Marathon is organised by the Saskatoon Road Runners Association, founded in 1975. The first race was run on 12 May 1979 as a test event for the Western Canada Summer Games marathon, with 66 registrants and 53 finishers. After many years in the autumn, it moved back to a late spring date in 2004.

Today there are six distances: the 42.2K marathon, the 21.1K half marathon, the 10K, the 5K, a 2.2K and the Kids' MaraFun. The course has made extensive use of the South Saskatchewan River valley and the trails, roads and parks of the Meewasin Valley, and parts of it have passed through the University of Saskatchewan. On the 2026 course the marathon had its south turnaround near the Gordie Howe Bridge.

The marathon is a Boston Marathon and Abbott WMM age group qualifier with chip timing. In 2026 the finish line closed at 1:00 p.m., based on a 6 hour pace, with timing checkpoints on the full distance. Walkers have their own category on the same course.

Meewasin is the race's charity of choice. Registration for 2027 opens on 26 November 2026.

On Livebib you can follow a participant who chooses to share their own live position from the phone they carry. That position comes from the participant, not from the organiser's timing, and the official results are published by the organiser.
