Royal Victoria Marathon, live.

Oceanside running on Thanksgiving weekend

The 47th Royal Victoria Marathon fills Canadian Thanksgiving weekend, 8 to 10 October 2027, with races through Victoria and Oak Bay.

The Royal Victoria Marathon has been run on the streets of Victoria and Oak Bay since 1980, when 700 people took part in the first year. It is organised by the Victoria Marathon Society, held each year on Canadian Thanksgiving weekend, and 2027 is the 47th edition. Registration for 2027 opens on 16 November 2026, and the marathon, half marathon and 8K all sold out in 2026.

The marathon and the Outway Half Marathon start at 8:15 on Sunday 10 October at the Legislative Grounds in downtown Victoria, and the Westland Insurance 8K starts there at 7:15. All three finish by the Inner Harbour. The Island Savings 5K is on Saturday 9 October at 9:00 and starts and finishes at Willows Beach Park in Oak Bay.

The marathon route is gently undulating, between 3 and 25 metres above sea level, with 770 feet of total gain. It goes from downtown through Beacon Hill Park and the rolling streets of Oak Bay with long stretches beside the ocean. The limit is 6.5 hours, and marathoners must pass 13K by 10:30. The half marathon has 345 feet of gain and a limit of 3 hours 30 minutes, the 8K has 90 minutes and the 5K one hour. The marathon is a Boston qualifier.

Spectators can watch on Dallas Road along the waterfront, which the half marathon and 8K both follow, or at the finish by the Legislature. The weekend also includes the Thrifty Foods Kids Run in Oak Bay.

On Livebib you can follow a participant who chooses to share their own live position from the phone they carry. This is not the organiser's timing, and the official results come from the Royal Victoria Marathon.
