Luxembourg's oldest road race, along the Moselle

The Route du Vin returns to Remich on Sunday 26 September 2027 with a half marathon, a 10 km and a 5 km beside the Moselle.

Created in 1962, the Route du Vin is the oldest road race in Luxembourg athletics. The idea came from Paul Frieden, the country's great post war distance runner, who wanted a road race in autumn, at harvest time, among the Moselle vineyards. The first edition was run on 16 October 1962, and since 2001 the race has also decided the national half marathon titles. It is organised by UrbanTrail de Luxembourg a.s.b.l.

Some 2,500 participants start the 21.098 km half marathon, which follows the vineyard slopes along the Luxembourg Moselle. Since the 2024 edition the course leaves Remich towards Stadtbredimus, comes back through Remich and heads to Schengen before returning to Remich for the finish. A 10 km and a 5 km are run on the same day, and children have their own short races.

Start, finish and the runner village are at the Piscine Remich, on the Route du Vin. The course is on roads closed to traffic, so time limits apply, and in the latest runner's handbook they were 2 hours 45 for the half marathon and 1 hour 45 for the 10 km. It is a scenic half that suits both club athletes and people looking for a relaxed autumn goal.

Public transport in Luxembourg is free and parking in Remich is very limited, so the organiser recommends the train or bus, and in recent years a shuttle has linked a park and ride in Stadtbredimus with Remich.
