A May weekend between Old Riga and the Daugava
The Rimi Riga Marathon is the spring road race weekend in the Latvian capital, with every distance on courses that pass the Old Town and the river.
The 2027 weekend is on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 May. The first Riga Marathon was run on 27 July 1991 near the Freedom Monument, and the race came back in 2007. Today all distances carry a World Athletics label and are AIMS measured, and the organiser says brand new courses for 2027 will be revealed later.
Sunday 16 May is the main race day, with the marathon, the half marathon, the 10 km and a shorter run of about 6 km. Teams can run a 42 km relay over four legs or a 21 km relay over two. The limits for 2027 are 6 hours for the marathon, 3 hours for the half and 2 hours for the 10 km, and Garmin pacemakers run the marathon and the half.
Saturday 15 May belongs to the DPD Mile of 1609 m, with a 30 minute limit, and the Kids' Day with runs of 200 m and 400 m and a 60 m sprint. Nordic walkers and parents with strollers are welcome on the shorter distances, so the weekend works for families.
The courses show Riga's Art Nouveau streets, the Old Town that is a UNESCO site and views across the Daugava. Spectators will find the field in the centre. Check the new 2027 course maps before choosing a place to stand.
On Livebib you can follow a participant who chooses to share their own live position from the phone they carry. This is not the organiser's timing, and the official results come from the Rimi Riga Marathon.
