GutsMuths-Rennsteiglauf, live.

Along the ridge of the Thuringian Forest to Schmiedefeld

The GutsMuths-Rennsteiglauf, held for the 54th time on Saturday 22 May 2027, is a point to point cross country race along the Rennsteig ridge path.

Every race finishes in Schmiedefeld am Rennsteig. The supermarathon over 73.9 km starts at 06:00 on the Marktplatz in Eisenach and the finish closes at 18:00. The half marathon over 21.2 km starts at 07:30 from the LOTTO Arena in Oberhof and has a finish cut off at 11:00. The marathon over 42.2 km starts at 09:00 in Neuhaus am Rennweg, and the organiser runs free transport for participants to every start.

The organiser calls it the largest cross country run in Europe. When we checked, 10,122 people had entered. Alongside the races there is a Nordic walking tour of 20.9 km and a hike of 17 km, so the whole family can take part.

The route stays mostly on forest paths and gravel along the ridge, with long climbs and descents rather than steep alpine terrain. The supermarathon suits experienced participants who can manage a long day, while the half marathon from Oberhof is a good first taste of the Rennsteig.

Spectators should plan transport early, since the starts are far apart. Every race ends in Schmiedefeld, which the organiser calls the most beautiful finish in the world.

On Livebib you can follow a participant who chooses to share their own live position from the phone they carry. This is not the organiser's timing, and the official results come from the Rennsteiglauf.
