Midsummer ultras from West Dean Gardens

Race to the King is a set of trail ultras and long walks from West Dean Gardens on the South Downs, from 30 km to 103 km.

Race to the King is on 19 June 2027, as close to the summer solstice as possible, so participants get almost 16 hours of daylight. It is part of the Threshold Trail Series, and every route starts and finishes at West Dean Gardens in West Sussex, using the South Downs Way, the Monarch's Way and the coast.

The Monarch's Loop is 30 km with 600 m of climb, heading along the South Downs Way towards Bignor Hill. The Coastal 50k is 50 km with 460 m, flat and runnable around Chichester Harbour and through Bosham. The Castle 50k is 53 km with 1,040 m, passing Arundel Castle. The 80K Non-Stop combines the Coastal 50k and the Monarch's Loop for 80 km and 1,065 m, and the 100K Non-Stop links the Coastal and Castle loops for 103 km and 1,510 m.

Cut-offs are 15 hours or more for the 50 km routes and 24 hours or more for the non-stop routes, so walkers are welcome as well as runners. The whole route is marked with red arrows that are reflective at night, and there are medics, hot food at halfway and at the finish, and bag transfer for everyone.

Supporters can use the food concessions at the start, halfway and finish, and shuttles and parking can be booked for the start and finish points.
