215 miles coast to coast on the Southern Upland Way

Race Across Scotland is a 215 mile coast to coast ultramarathon along the Southern Upland Way, from Portpatrick to Cockburnspath.

Race Across Scotland, organised by GB Ultras, starts at 06:00 on Saturday 7 August 2027 from Portpatrick harbour, with race HQ at Portpatrick Community Hub, and runs until 11 August. It is back for its 10th year. The finish is at Cockburnspath Village Hall on the east coast, and the overall cut-off is 100 hours.

The race covers 215 miles (346 km) on the Southern Upland Way, over hills, along valleys and through the forests of the Southern Uplands. There are 12 checkpoints, among them Glentrool at about 45.8 miles, St Johns Town of Dalry at 68.2, Sanquhar at 94.4, Wanlockhead at 102.3 and Beattock at 122.3, each with its own cut-off. Bothies along the way serve as emergency shelters, and a low level route avoiding Gateshaw Rig and Cat's Shoulder can be used in severe weather.

Entry is by application, and runners must be at least 20 on race day and show enough experience. They are self-sufficient between checkpoints and may have a support crew from Glentrool onwards. The 2027 race is full, with a waitlist for 2027 and 2028.

The fastest times are 53 hours 37 minutes 11 seconds by Caspian James in 2024 and 62 hours 20 minutes by Joasia Zakrzewski in 2021. Crews are asked to keep away from some checkpoints because of narrow roads and limited parking.

Every runner collects a race tracker at registration. On Livebib you can also follow a participant who chooses to share the live position of the phone they carry. That is their own position, not the organiser's tracking or timing, and official results come from the organiser.
