Pieniny by UTMB is a trail running weekend in the mountain spa town of Szczawnica, in southern Poland.
Pieniny by UTMB is a trail running event in Szczawnica, a mountain spa town in southern Poland, and part of the UTMB World Series. The organiser describes it as an encounter with nature, people and local culture, built over 15 years by participants, residents and volunteers.
The courses cross the Pieniny, Beskid Sądecki and Gorce Mountains, on forest trails, open meadows and pastures. Spiski Wędrowiec starts at the water dam in Niedzica and crosses the Spisz region with views of the Tatra Mountains, then a night in the Gorce and a final section in the Little Pieniny. Chyża Durbaszka follows the Pieniny Klippen Belt, where limestone rocks rise from the meadows. Lubań Vertical is one long climb from Ochotnica Dolna to the summit of Lubań.
There are eight courses from 6.8 km to 137 km: Spiski Wędrowiec (137 km), Niepokorny Mnich (96 km), Dziki Groń (65 km), Wielka Prehyba (44 km), Żwawe Wierchy (33 km), Chyża Durbaszka (23 km), Hardy Rolling (13 km) and Lubań Vertical (6.8 km). On Sunday, Mini Pieniny by UTMB holds races for kids and youth.
The event runs from 22 to 25 April 2027, with the main start and finish in Dietl Square and the Ultra-Trail Village in the Higher Park. Starts are spread over Thursday, Friday and Saturday, so parts of the field are out through the night. A participant can choose to share their own live position on Livebib from their phone, so people can follow from home. This is not the organiser's timing, and official results come from the organiser.
