Fifty years of running along the Bay of Panama

The Maratón Internacional de Panamá marks 50 years, from 1976 to 2026, with a marathon and shorter races along the bay of Panama City on 15 November 2026.

The Maratón Internacional de Panamá is organised by the Club Corredores del Istmo, and the 2026 edition celebrates its 50th anniversary since the first race in 1976. It takes place on Sunday 15 November 2026, with a marathon, a half marathon, a 10K, a 5K and a relay. Start and finish for the marathon, the half and the relay are in the car park of the Hotel Miramar.

The marathon starts at 4:00 in the morning. The course runs along Avenida Balboa and the marine corridor, out across the Amador causeway to a turn at Isla Flamenco, back along the bay, and then east through Punta Paitilla and Punta Pacífica before the return to the Hotel Miramar. The route is certified by World Athletics and AIMS.

The half marathon and the relay start at 5:45, and the 10K and the 5K at 6:00. The relay is run in five legs, with changeovers at km 5 and km 10 on the marine section, at km 15 in front of the Hotel Miramar and at km 20 near Boca la Caja. The 5K turns at the Vasco Núñez de Balboa monument, so it stays close to the start.

The 21K turns at Pencas in Amador and passes the Balboa monument and the viaduct in Paitilla, and the 10K heads east past Punta Paitilla towards Punta Pacífica. With five distances on the same morning, a group of friends or a club can each pick the race that suits them, and everyone finishes back at the Hotel Miramar.
