Two days of running in Paavo Nurmi's hometown

The Paavo Nurmi Marathon is a two day running event in Turku, held for the 36th time in 2027 in the hometown of the nine-time Olympic champion.

The event carries the name of Paavo Nurmi, the nine-time Olympic champion who came from Turku, and the 2027 edition is the 36th. It runs over two days, Friday 20 and Saturday 21 August 2027, with the city centre and the river Aurajoki at the heart of everything.

Friday belongs to the shorter distances. The MiniMarathon for children, the 5 km and the 10 km are all run on Friday. On Saturday the half marathon and the marathon both start at 11:00 from Turku Market Square, Kauppatori. The route follows the bank of the Aurajoki out towards the island of Ruissalo. The marathon covers the half marathon loop twice, so marathon participants see the same river views on both laps.

The marathon has overall and age group categories for men and women, and every finisher receives a participation medal. The event has sold out before, so it is worth registering in good time.

The event is organised by Turun Urheiluliitto. After the last edition the organiser wrote that the race filled the streets of Turku with runners, supporters and shared energy, and called it the largest and most international sports event in Turku.
