The Vasaloppet track by headlamp

Nattvasan is a night ski event on the Vasaloppet track to Mora on Friday 5 March 2027, with 90 km from Sälen and 45 km or 30 km from Oxberg, alone or in pairs.

Nattvasan is organised by Vasaloppet on the Friday before Vasaloppet itself and takes the classic course into the dark. It is a recreational event in free technique, so both classic and skating are allowed, and you can ski on your own or in a team of two. The organiser sums it up as the biggest adventure in history.

The 90 km starts at 20:00 from Berga by in Sälen and follows the whole Vasaloppet course through the night to the historic finish gate in Mora. The 45 km and the 30 km both start at 19:00 in Oxberg and finish under the same gate. Nattvasan 90 takes at most 3,000 participants, and the minimum age is 17.

Night skiing brings its own rules. On every distance a headlamp is mandatory, and so is your own container to refill at the checkpoints, since no disposable cups are handed out. On the 90 km every skier must also carry a litre of fluid. The 90 km has cut off times at Evertsberg 02:00, Oxberg 03:45 and Hökberg 05:00, and each checkpoint must be left within ten minutes of its cut off. It suits people who already ski long distances comfortably and want a different kind of challenge, on a track the organiser describes as lit by stars and headlamps and lined with torches and fires.

The 90 km has two start pens, one for a skiing time under 6.5 hours and one for over 6.5 hours, and you choose your own. The 45 km is open from age 13 and the 30 km from age 11. Pairs appear in their own results list based on the team's average time, and both must finish for the team to get a final time. Dress warmly if you plan to stand at the finish.

On Livebib you can follow a participant who chooses to share their own live position from the phone they carry during the night. This is a separate service and not the organiser's timing. Official times and results come from Vasaloppet.
