A jubilee marathon with a red carpet finish on the Prinzipalmarkt

The Volksbank-Münster-Marathon celebrates its 25th edition on Sunday 12 September 2027, with the finish on a red carpet at the Prinzipalmarkt.

The first race in 2002 drew 5,000 marathon participants, and today the organiser counts about 12,000 participants, 300 artists and bands along the route and more than 100,000 spectators. The race is run by the club Münster-Marathon e.V., founded in 2001.

There are four ways to take part. The marathon covers the full 42.195 km. The Wecker-28 joins the marathon course at km 14 near the Franz Hitze Haus on the Kardinal-von-Galen-Ring and runs the last 28 km, with a limit of 500 places. The Atruvia Staffelmarathon splits the distance into four legs of 10.5 km, and the Westfalen Gruppe Charity-Lauf is a 10 km run.

The Wecker-28 is a good step for people who want more than a half but are not ready for the full distance. There is also a EUREGIO combination with the Enschede Marathon on 11 April 2027 for those who want to run both.

There will again be themed Power Points along the whole route, and the organiser calls the support of the crowd, which carries runners in every race, phenomenal. The last kilometres run through Nienberge, Roxel and Gievenbeck before the finish on the flag lined Prinzipalmarkt.

On Livebib you can follow a participant who chooses to share their own live position from the phone they carry. This is not the organiser's timing, and the official results come from the Münster Marathon.
