Morat to Fribourg · October 2, 2027
From the Hauptgasse in Morat up to the Place Georges-Python in Fribourg
Morat-Fribourg, held for the 93rd time on 2 and 3 October 2027, remembers the battle of Morat in 1476 and the messenger who ran to Fribourg with news of the victory.
The classic race covers 17.17 km from the Hauptgasse in Morat, at 453 metres, to the Place Georges-Python in Fribourg, at 615 metres. The route crosses the countryside between the two towns, and the climb known as the Montée de la Sonnaz is the part everyone talks about. The women's course record is 57:50.6, set by Helen Bekele Tola in 2019.
For a shorter day, Courtepin-Fribourg runs 9.65 km from Courtepin into Fribourg. The Trail moitié-moitié is a 26 km course with 630 metres of climbing, about 60 percent of it on trails, and it is limited to 900 participants.
The main races are on Sunday 3 October. The classic distance suits people who run 15 km comfortably and are ready for the climb of the Sonnaz. Fribourg lies about 160 metres higher than Morat, so it pays to save energy.
The organiser calls it the largest sporting event in the canton and asks spectators to bring cowbells, instruments and voices, with a fan zone worthy of the Alpe d'Huez on the Montée de la Sonnaz. Public transport is recommended to reach the start or the finish, since the roads between Morat and Fribourg via Courtepin close from 05:00 to about 13:00.
On Livebib you can follow a participant who chooses to share their own live position from the phone they carry. This is not the organiser's timing, and the official results come from the Morat-Fribourg.
