A club-run lake swim at Stensjön

Mölndal Open Water is a lake swim at Stensjöns badplats in Mölndal on Sunday 29 August 2027, with three distances from a first open-water race to a longer test.

The event is run by the swimming club Mölndals Allmänna Simsällskap as a club-driven race for everyone, with the joy of swimming and safety ahead of hard competition. It takes place at the bathing beach on Stensjön, a lake on the edge of Mölndal just south of Gothenburg, and the start kit is collected on the day at the race office by the beach.

There are three distances. The 500 m is a short, safe loop close to the shore and the pier, made for younger swimmers, families and beginners. The 1000 m is the distance the club marks as popular, and it is part of the Göteborgsklassikern, a regional challenge where you run Finalloppet 10 km, cycle Hisingen Runt 50 km and swim this 1000 m. The 2500 m is the challenge for swimmers who like to hold an even pace for longer, swum as two and a half laps, with an age limit of 16.

The water is a freshwater lake rather than the sea, and the organiser links to current water temperatures from Mölndal Energi. The wetsuit rule follows the water: below 16°C a wetsuit is mandatory, from 16 to 18°C it is recommended, from 18 to 23°C it is allowed, and above 23°C it is not allowed. SUP boards, kayaks and officials cover the whole course, which makes it a calm place to try open water for the first time.

Families and friends get the best view from the beach and the pier, where the start goes from the pier and the finish is on the beach. Registration is through RaceID, and the course and schedule are published on the race site ahead of the day.
