An evening run in Laugardalur at midsummer

The Suzuki Midnight Sun Run is a midsummer evening road race in the Laugardalur valley of Reykjavik, run in the light of the Icelandic summer night.

The 2027 race is on the evening of Thursday 24 June, and the 2028 edition is set for 22 June. It is organised by the Reykjavik Sports Association, which also holds the Reykjavik Marathon in August and the Laugavegur Ultra Marathon in July. Nearly 2,500 people take part each year, and in 2026 they came from 66 countries.

There are three distances: a half marathon, open from the age of 15, a 10 km that is not recommended for children under 12, and a 5 km. All three start on Engjavegur in front of Laugardalshöll and finish in Laugardalur behind the ice skating rink, on a path by the old laundry springs. The courses are measured by a certified AIMS measurer and run mostly on paths, with some streets that are not closed to traffic.

The 5 km and the 10 km suit people who want a first race in Iceland, and the half marathon is a calm way to see Laugardalur in the summer light. Every participant gets a medal, and the first three women, men and non binary participants with a competition ticket win prizes.

After the race participants get free entry to Laugardalslaug for a pool party with a DJ from 22:00 to 00:30. Spectators can stand near the start on Engjavegur and at the finish in the valley. The organiser asks that no one follows the course on foot, by bike or with a dog.
