From Ringvägen 26 to Hornsgatan 57, after dark

A night race on Södermalm since 1982, started by Hammarby supporters who took the idea from the Rio carnival.

Midnattsloppet Stockholm is run on Saturday 14 August 2027. The 21 km and 10 km start at 21:10 and the 5 km at 21:40, with the start groups behind them released five minutes apart, the last of them shortly before midnight. Everything happens on Södermalm: warm-up and start at Ringvägen 26, the Runners’ Corner at Zinkensdamms IP, and the finish at Hornsgatan 57. The organiser is Midnattsloppet Nordic AB, owned by Hammarby IF Friidrott.

The first race in 1982 had 2,852 starters; the organiser now counts about 50,000 registered participants a year. The 10 km and 5 km run on asphalt around Södermalm, everyone in the same shirt, and the 21 km leaves the 10 km course at Timmermansgatan for a longer loop that the organiser describes as relatively hilly. The 10 km has a maximum time of 90 minutes counted from the last start group, and the rope is pulled at the 5 km timing point at 00:02.

A start sequence that runs for two hours means the people on Hornsgatan rarely know which group their runner is in. A runner can share a link to their own Livebib broadcast: family and friends open it in a browser, with no account and no app, and see the runner on the course line, the distance covered and a finish estimate that updates as the race goes. Anything estimated is marked as estimated, and the runner decides who gets the link.
