One flat loop past palm groves and the city ramparts

The Marathon International de Marrakech holds its 37th edition on Sunday 31 January 2027, with a marathon and a half marathon that start and finish in the heart of the ochre city.

The race has been held since 1987, on the last Sunday of January each year, and in 2027 that is 31 January. The organiser expects more than 15,000 participants from all over the world, drawn by the often mild January weather and a course counted among the faster international marathons.

Start and finish are on Avenue Prince Moulay Rachid, the former Avenue de la Menara, behind the Sofitel hotel and 150 m from the fountain. The marathon starts at 07:45 and the half marathon at 09:15. Both courses are certified, the marathon over 42.195 km, and they run on flat roads along avenues of palm, orange and olive trees and beside the ramparts, with a few gentle false flats in the palm grove.

The marathon has a time limit of 5 hours 30 minutes and the half marathon 3 hours. Refreshment points with water and orange slices are set every 5 km, and sponge points every 5 km from km 7. The marathon is open from age 17 and the half marathon from age 16, licensed or not. Bibs are collected at Place de la Koutoubia on Friday 29 and Saturday 30 January, and a passport is required.

For supporters, the start and finish area on Avenue Prince Moulay Rachid is the place to be, and the prize giving takes place under the start and finish arch on Sunday. On Saturday at 09:00 the marathon village hosts the course pour tous, a run open to everyone. The flat profile makes this a good choice for a first marathon or a fast half.
