Course & challenge

Marathon du Beaujolais

The course is a line, not a loop: 42.195 km from the wine village of Fleurie to Villefranche-sur-Saône, through more than twelve villages. Along the way are twelve châteaux and cuvages, among them Corcelles, Pizay and Ravatys, and the aid stations come with Beaujolais nouveau tastings. The 2026 profile has not been published yet.

The time limit is 7 hours 30 minutes, which leaves room for anyone who stops at the tables. Sixty per cent of runners race in costume, and around ten per cent come from outside France. The organiser has 1,200 volunteers along the course. It suits runners who want a marathon on their own terms, but also those racing the clock — the wave start keeps the field apart over the first kilometres.

A point-to-point course means family cannot see their runner pass several times, and the finish in Villefranche is a long way from the start in Fleurie. With the runner’s Livebib link they see her position on the line, the distance and an estimated finish that is recalculated as her pace changes at the tables. If the phone loses signal, the position is carried forward along the course and marked as estimated. The runner decides who gets the link.
