A flat spring marathon for Greater Manchester
The Manchester Marathon is a 26.2 mile road race through Trafford and Manchester, held on Sunday 18 April 2027.
The Manchester Marathon has a long history. The first Manchester Marathon was run in 1908, a 20 mile race organised by Salford Harriers that started and finished at the Saracen's Head pub in Warburton, Trafford. Between 1969 and 1973 it ran from Manchester Town Hall to the Old Trafford football stadium. Further editions followed from 1981 to 1985 and from 1996 to 2002, and after an absence of ten years the race returned in Trafford.
The 2027 edition is on Sunday 18 April. The organiser calls it the UK's flattest major marathon and the second largest marathon in the UK, fourth in Europe, and expects a record 52,000 participants. Public places went in a launch window, with over 40,000 secured in 10 days, and the event is now at capacity apart from a limited number of charity places.
The course covers 26.2 miles of road through Trafford and Manchester, with drinks stations and activity points along the way. The organiser's route page shows the 2026 route map as a guide to what is in store in 2027, so check it for the exact start and finish area. The organiser promises great PB potential and welcomes runners of all abilities.
Supporters matter here. The organiser counts over 150,000 of them along the route and promises loud and electric support all the way round.
On Livebib you can follow a participant who chooses to share their own live position from the phone they carry. This is not the organiser's timing, and the official results come from the Manchester Marathon.
