Seven stages around the world's eighth highest mountain

The Manaslu Trail Race is a supported multi stage trail race in the Nepal Himalaya, and the 2026 edition runs from 7 to 19 November.

The Manaslu Trail Race takes a small group of runners on a part circumnavigation of Manaslu, the world's eighth highest mountain. The 2026 race runs from 7 to 19 November, starting and ending in Kathmandu, and the 2027 edition is already set for 6 to 18 November.

Runners cover about 140 km over seven race days and hike about 40 km on two more. The itinerary starts racing at Soti Khola and runs through Dhoban, Deng, the monastery at Hinang Gompa and Samagaon, with an out and back stage towards Manaslu Base Camp and a short stage to Samdo. After a hike towards the Tibetan border and the crossing of the Larkya pass at 5,160 m, the last stage drops from Bimtang to the finish in Tilje. Running altitudes range from 800 m to 3,800 m.

It is a supported race. Runners carry a light pack, mules carry the bags between stages, nights are spent in tea houses and the team cooks the meals. There are no cut off times, and walking is allowed as much as anyone needs, with a sweeping team and a doctor trained in high altitude medicine at the back. Results go to ITRA and UTMB.

The field is small, up to 30 to 50 starters, and the organisers invite young Nepali runners to take part. It suits people with mountain experience who want a long trail adventure rather than a one day race. Each evening after dinner the race director explains the next day's route and its highlights.
